Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving!

This past weekend we celebrated Thanksgiving here in Canada. It’s that lovely time of year when the weather starts cooling down and the leaves change color. This year, in particular, it feels as though I have a lot to be thankful for, so here’s my Thanksgiving list.

In 2018 I’m Thankful For:

My Privilege
I could never say it enough. I’m so lucky for the circumstances I’ve been born into. As a girl born in Canada, I instantly became one of the luckiest women in the world.  I was born white, conventionally attractive, and to a middle-class family, putting me in a position of immense privilege.

My Country
Canada isn’t perfect. But, in political climates like this, I’m glad that the actions of my country’s officials don’t oppose human rights.  It’s sad that it has to be said in 2018. It’s also sad that the rhetoric from the United States is gaining some momentum here in Canada. More than ever, it’s important to recognize our rights, cherish them, and fight to defend them.

I’m also grateful that I live in such a beautiful country. We are a large nation filled with wild and natural spaces that others travel to see. Even my walk to work takes my breath away some days. I’m glad to be in a city that values green space.

My Job
I’m thankful for my job and all the things that it provides. I’m so happy to have a comfortable living space and finally some financial stability.  I’m grateful that I’ve finally been given an opportunity to use my knowledge and skills – and be paid fairly for it. After years of working multiple jobs to get by, it’s been a relief to finally break into a career.

My Cat
Callie is my best friend, the love of my life, my reason to breathe. I’m so glad we found each other and were able to save one another.

What a year of perspective. I hope that you are all finding yourselves in positions that are worth being thankful for. What are you thankful for this year?

Much love,

Amanda
